10 cars with V10 engines you need to know | V10 cars

Cars with V10 engines are lesser known than their V8 and V12 counterparts. V10 engines have only been produced in diesel form and have been around since 1965 most of these engines were used in trucks for hauling purposes. The first mass-produced V10 petrol engine for cars was first produced in 1991 with the introduction of the Dodge Viper.

The unique configuration of this engine layout makes it sound distinctive from any other engine being made today. It’s also a complex engine to make because of its imbalance so very few cars use it.

What cars have a V10 engine?

Because the V10 is such a rare engine very few cars have had it and here’s a list

1. BMW M5/M6

BMW M5 V10

The engine was codenamed as at 5 and made 500 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque and had a red line at 8,250 RPM and it made a glorious sound through its entire rev range.

The S85 won international engine of the year in 2005 2006 and performance engine of the year in 2007 and also won the best engine above 4.0 liter for 4 years in a row. But the engine has had its issues over the years but still remains one of the very best engines made by BMW.

Button 2008 Audi decided to give the RS6 a similar engine from the R8 with two turbos attached to it a 5.0 liter V10 which made over 570HP. It had exotic materials like carbon fiber for lighter weight and active aero for downforce. But its party piece was the unique V10 co-developed by Yamaha to give this exotic sports car one of the best sounding engines you’ll ever hear in a supercar. Only 500 were ever made and it cost Lexus so much money that they’ve never made another supercar since.

It’s also set the record for the fastest production truck at 154.587 mph in 2004.

7. Porsche Carrera GT

Apart from making in 911 occasionally Porsche always decides to do something crazy. One of those crazy times came in 2003 when they decided to stick 5.7 liter, Le Mans, engine its new sports car. The engine was planned for racing years and since they couldn’t go racing with it they decided to put it in their new supercar. The R8 is known as the everyday supercar, Very comfortable and usable and the V10 engine also added an extra level of excitement. This made the car very exciting and with Audi’s touch also made the car very reliable which is not what you would normally associate with exotic sports cars. The R8 is still being produced today is currently making 620 HP and definitely announces itself whenever it’s around.

10. Lamborghini Huracan

Lamborghini Huracan V10

The Huracán replaced the Gallardo in 2015 and has now become Lamborghini’s best-selling car. Producing over 14,000 units and its first 5 years of production beating out the entire production run of the Gallardo. The Huracán has a 5.2 L version of the V10 found in the later Gallardos. The original version makes 610 HP and currently making 640 HP in its most powerful form. The Huracan is also Lamborghini’s most reliable engine with many having very little engine failure. One of these cars has done over 180,000 miles which is almost unheard of in a supercar. This V10 seems to be the very last production engine being made today and after these go, we may never see another engine being made again.

As exotic as these engines may seem, The engines in the Dodge Viper and Lamborghini seem to be very reliable. Every other engine in this list is unique in their own way and definitely offer as much thrill as any exotic car with a different engine layout. Not very many of these engines were produced in for the short time we had them they definitely made their mark.
